Introduction to Birds' World

Sunday, December 27, 2009
Before I start about Bird watching,Breeding its my honor to introduce the birds' world to the people.

In 1861, QUARRY WORKERS in South Germany discovered one of the world's famous fossils called Archaeopteryx, it has feathers and wings-the hallmark of a bird. However, unlike any modern bird, Archaeopteryx also had a bony tail and sharp claws on its wings. Still it also had dozens of pointed teeth same as foun
d in dinosaurs. Here was a strong evidence that birds were evolved from dinosaurs over 150 million years ago. Since then many more discoveries have helped to back this up. They include "Dino-Birds" from China, which had a covering of fury feathers, probably to help them keep warm. At some point in the past, these small, fast running predators gave rise to the first real birds, which had flight feathers and wings, enabling them to get off the ground. This is how after so many years birds were evolved. But by the sharp teeth its clear that the Archaeoptryx were carnivorous but due to evolution it had probably lost its teeth.

Today there are over 9,500 species of birds, ranging from Humming Birds that could sit on a match box, to the Ostrich, which is up to 9ft(2.7Mts) tall. Thanks to their feathers and wings that birds live all over the world and dominate the skies.

An imaginary Picture of a Archaeoptryx.

Fact: Although fossils have shown that Pterosaurs(flying reptile) were highly successful in their time, they all died out 65million years ago. They were not directly related to the ancestors of modern birds.
